It's not quite the whole story. To Scully, the notion that tarot cards have usefulness is not wholly at odds with the scientific fact that they're simply printed paper; it's just a matter of trusting intuition, considering your knowledge and beliefs and best guesses within a framework slightly more esoteric than the scientific method. But it's hard to explain that; as hard as it was to really convey what happened to her in the temple and why it mattered so terribly much.
